Neoprene has a regular structure and crystalline elongation. Pure rubber has high tensile strength, and because its molecular chain contains chlorine atoms, its performance has the following characteristics:
1)Good aging resistance and heat resistance. Because the chlorine atom has the role of electron absorption and shielding, so that neoprene rubber has superior aging resistance. Especially weather aging and ozone aging resistance. In general-purpose rubber is only similar to ethylene propylene rubber and butyl rubber, its heat resistance and nitrile rubber equivalent. It is easy to change color after sunlight exposure and should not be used as light-colored or transparent products.
2)Good combustion resistance. Burning can release a large amount of hydrogen chloride, only carbonization does not delay combustion, good self-extinguishing. Its flame resistance is the best in general-purpose rubber.
3)Good resistance to air permeability. It is second only to butyl rubber and nitrile rubber, and better than natural rubber, butylbenzene rubber and butyl rubber.
4)Good oil resistance and chemical resistance. Except for aromatic hydrocarbon and chlorinated hydrocarbon oils, it is stable in other solvents. Its oil resistance is better than natural rubber and SBR, but not as good as NBR. It is resistant to general inorganic acids and alkalis, but not to concentrated sulfuric acid and concentrated nitric acid.
5)Neoprene can be vulcanized with metal oxides (such as: magnesium oxide, zinc oxide).
Disadvantages: poor storage stability. General neoprene is easy to harden and deteriorate during storage, generally less than one year at 20 degrees Celsius, and generally less than six months at 30 degrees Celsius. But non-sulfur-regulated 54-1 type storage time at 30 degrees Celsius can be up to 40 months.
What can neoprene do with it? The popular stubby cooler, makeup bag, wet bag, tote bag, laptop bag and other sporting goods are made of neoprene material.
